Tarry, rash wanton: am not I thy lord?

Saw A Midsummer Night's Dream -- Shakespeare in the Park (Wilmot Park in this case) with Tracy tonight. It was fun, the wind started blowing and nearly toppled the makeshift stage, the performers were having a ball. We ate salami, and some other picnic-stuff. Stopped at DQ for a Dilly Bar and Peanut Buster after.

Warm Daze

We're pretty quick to start complaining about the heat around here. Maybe local weather reporters are the same everywhere but it's still awfully tiresome. The whining starts as soon as the temps get above 80. Then it's all "when will it cool off?" and "we'll tell you in a few minutes." Geeze almighty. Maybe I'm just jealous. I think being a TV Weather "personality" would be a kick-ass job but since I'm not one I'll just bitch about their lameness.

Thursday, which means tomorrow is Friday. It hasn't been a bad week, work- or home-wise. I've been trying to avoid listening to the news lately, trying to maintain my positive outlook. I swear, the news just makes me feel defeated all the time. Watch too much news and you might end up like Creighton Bernette on Treme. Speaking of Treme, do you think there will be a season two? Tracy thought that the Gusher in the Gulf could keep it going. There's still a post-Katrina story or two to tell: folks struggling to put their shit back together, and the music, there is always the music.

HP PC and Fry's Electronics

Spent most of the day poking the garage with a pointy object. Made some progress but still a long way to go. Need to get rid of some more stuff, move some stuff around, and always keep things accessible.

I have been trying to get Fry's to fix or replace a PC bought over a year ago. It's been pretty much useless as a computer. I've taken it to Fry's 4 or 5 times over the past year and most recently they had it for over a month. I set it up yesterday and immediately had problems with it. Fry's takes the position that it's a software issue, even though that makes no logical sense. But, due to the fact that the extended warranty doesn't cover software problems I understand why they wouldn't want to say otherwise. Shit, they might have to actually honor the warranty and fix the damn thing if they admitted it was a hardware problem. You know, it's funny, I turn it on and it immediately breaks, I take it to Fry's, they keep it a month or two, and tell me there's nothing wrong with it. But I digress. After  trying to restore the factory partition one more time without success I called Fry's again. The tech that's been working on it was actually there and actually came to the phone. We talked for a while and he said I should bring it in, etc. Same as it ever was. The tech suggested I call HP and gave me the number. Yeah, so I called them, in less than 5 minutes the tech said it was clearly not a software problem.HP tech said since it's out of warranty with HP, the thing I should do it pay them $50 for a one-time phone diagnosis, or better yet, pay $100 and get 1 year support. I just don't feel good about that. The HP tech was completely sympathetic. So, I'm trying again to restore the factory partition. It's not working. I guess I'll try a few more times then take it back to Fry's. I'll get a loaner from them this time since they get the PC onto the bench much quicker if I have one of their loaner PCs...

OK. Enough of that for now. I'm off to Seattle to watch the fireworks!

p.s. I guess I forgot to press the publish button so  the above post was not quite on-time.

Happy Birthday, America!

Today is Friday July 2nd, 2010. I took the day off from the regular job and stayed up past my bedtime last-night. Tracy and I watched some TV, ended up watching Joel Fox's documentary "Gasland" which is about "fracking" for natural gas in the good ol' U.S. of A, what a great deal it is for companies like Halliburton, and what a crappy deal it is for the planet and current inhabitants thereof. Big surprise.

Hearkened me back to the early days of Dubbya's first term - before 9/11 came down like Thor's hammer - when the magnates of America's energy industry were gathered in DC for a nice chat with Dick Cheney. During their visit they helped the administration put together (or dismantle, depending on your personal point of view) our country's energy policy. Oh, the prices we pay for progress. I couldn't keep my eyes open to watch it all the way through so I'll finish it today. Check it out, it may open yours a little.

So, what are you doing this weekend? I'm buying some wood flooring and working around the house. Tracy and I will go to her sister Becky's house on Sunday to catch the Lake Union fireworks-that nearly weren't. Becky has an awesome view of the Seattle Space Needle from her living room window. That will be a treat.

Happy 4th of July. Happy Birthday, America. Thanks for being you.
